how to crochet | rose window motif

IMG_8140.JPG

I found this pretty motif in a vintage knitting magazine and evidently this was a very popular design back in the 1970s because the magazine had three different items made using this one motif; a lace top, a shawl and a blanket. Amazing huh?

And then I made the motif and now I know why it was such a hit. It’s really pretty. Really bloody pretty. So I made a video tutorial for the design and the written pattern is here below in both UK and US terminology.

UK version

Round 1. ch3, 23 trebles (tr) into the loop, join with a ss to top of beg. ch3.

Round 3. ch3, 2tr into first space, *ch3, 3tr in next ch1 space; repeat from * around, ch3, join with a ss to top of beg. ch3.

Round 4. ss into middle tr, ch3, 3tr in same stitch, *ch4, 4tr in middle tr of next group; repeat from * around, ch4, join with a ss to top of beg. ch3.

Round 5. ss into space between the middle two trebles, ch3, 4tr in same place, *ch5, 5tr in space between middle two trebles of next group; repeat from * around, ch5, join with a ss to top of beg. ch3.
