how to crochet | miley hexis

This amazing crochet hexi pattern came about after I saw a picture of Miley Cyrus probably, erm, around two years ago (yikes!), wearing this crocheted crop vest.

I loved it as soon as I saw it even though the colours are a bit eye-wateringly garish and so I immediately set to work trying to figure the pattern out.

I’m not certain that I’ve matched it exactly but I don’t think I did too bad. I think the trick was in the tall stitches and the double trebles (trebles for US readers), which I don’t often use, worked a treat.

I started off making the three colour version like Miley’s and it looked nice but then I started experimenting with just two colours and much preferred it. You can of course make the hexi motif with however many colours you prefer, it’s a fairly straightforward pattern but does have a few tricky bits. If you can’t make sense of my written pattern instructions you might want to watch the video tutorial instead, you can find it at the bottom of this page.

The video tutorial includes instructions on joining the hexi motifs using a crochet join.
