knitting pattern | linnet socks
The Linnet Socks were a long time in the making, a horribly long time in the making!
The pattern was designed and the sample started in September 2019 when the amazing yarn was purchased, but the sample was only dragged out of hibernation and finished in 2026.
The stitch pattern is the same that was used in the Linnet Shorty Socks, which were originally called the Love Island Socks but a name change was forced after a copyright claim from ITV! It’s a shame because the name came from the mini skein set used for the sample which was the Love Island Sock Set by Biffsugar Yarns seen below.
The yarn used for the Linnet Socks is Legwarmers by Birdstreet Yarn on their merino/nylon sock base and purchased back in 2019 so not sure if they still sell the colourway. It is a lovely pinky cream colour with speckles of purple and orange scattered lightly throughout. The contrast colour is Xenon from CoopKnits Socks Yeah!
Any 4ply/fingering weight sock yarn will work with this pattern which is worked from the cuff down with a heel flap and gusset and contrasting heels and toes.
Whilst the shorty sock version goes straight into the heel flap after finishing the (much shorter) ribbing section, the standard linnet sock has a long ankle section that really shows off the pretty, textured stitch pattern.
Worked over 60sts and available in one size only, you can make the socks more roomy by going up to a 2.5mm needle.
The pattern is now available to buy on Ravelry by clicking below, noting that the shorty socks version is a separate pattern available here.
